Busan International Anti-Aging Expo 2013 provides a place for communication between Anti-Aging related companies and consumers as aging/anti-aging medical technology and national attention has become more developed.
History of Active Aging Consortium Asia Pacific (ACAP):
The policy framework for Active Aging developed during the 2002 Madrid World Congress on Aging which serves as a foundation for our work. Active Aging Consortium Asia Pacific (ACAP) supports countries and community representatives to increase awareness of Active Aging through lectures, conferences and training. ACAP contributes to global exchange of Active Aging ideas through its website, national and international conferences as well as by collaborating on project of mutual interest. ACAP’s mission is to provide a forum in Asia Pacific for the sharing of research, policy ideas and best practices for Active Aging. To fulfill ACAP’s mission, members work with government agencies, academic institutions, businesses, service providers, volunteer organizations, older adults, students, and others in their home countries to sponsor Active Aging conferences. The group’s founder and the first president was Dr. Takeo Ogawa, a professor at Kumamoto University and the president of AABC (Asia Aging Business Center). Currently, Dr. Kathryn Braun, a professor at Hawaii University, is the president of the ACAP.
The Busan Anti-Aging Expo supports health promotion and longevity through;
- Social Participation
- Health Promotion, and
- Safety concepts
Anti- Aging requires a partnership between individuals, who must prepare for a long life by making good lifestyle choices, and social policy, which must help make the “right” choices the “easy” choices.
Anti – Aging traditionally has referred to medical treatments that can reverse or stop the evidence of aging. Until now, the Anti Aging concept has been considered to be for the elite, who could afford these age-reversing treatments. However, a new concept of Anti-Aging is emerging which involves foods and treatments that can help optimize aging that can be available to all citizens, rich and poor. Hence, this conference’s subject was selected to orient citizens to the concept of Anti Aging.
The goal of citizens’ orientation to Anti Aging is to broaden the understanding of the concept and reality of Anti-Aging among Korean citizens. The orientation will involve discussions led by prominent professors and professionals from a multidisciplinary background related to Active Aging.

Dr. Kathryn Braun,
USAPresident Active Aging Consortium Asia Pacific, Dr. Kathryn L. Braun is a Professor of Public Health and Social Work at the University of Hawai‘i, and chair of the Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) program. Dr. Braun is known for her work in community-based participatory research in cancer and gerontology, and she has published more than 150 peer-reviewed journal articles on these topics.
Astrid Stuckelberger, Switzerland
Professor, University of Geneva, Dr. Stuckelberger is a gerontologist and internationally recognized expert in ageing. She is currently a lecturer and researcher at Geneva school of Public Health of Faculty and Medicine of the University of Geneva. She conducts research and expertise on health issues at many levels: governmental agencies, European Commission, several UN specialized agencies and NGOs. She has previously served at the WHO as a member of ethics research committee.
Kim, Cheol Min, Republic of Korea
Director Research Center for Anti-Aging Technology Development
Dr. Min Cheol Kim is the Director of the Research Center for Anti-Aging Technology Development. He is also an affiliate Professor of Laboratory Medicine at Pusan National University, Yangsan Hospital. His research interests include development of novel diagnostic system based on bio-information analysis and nanotechnology. He is also involved in the study of the regulation of molecules working for energy metabolism, and its application to ageing-related diseases as well as bioinformatics in human genetics.
Robert Goldman, USA
President, A4MDr. Robert Goldman, M.D., Ph,D., D.O., FAASP, is physician co-founder and Chairman of the Board of the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine and Chairman of the World Anti-Aging Academy of Medicine. He serves as Chairman of the International Medical Commission overseeing sports medicine committees in over 184 nations. Dr. Goldman is the President Emeritus of the National Academy of Sports Medicine. He founded the International Sports Hall of Fame.

Dr Stoxen is a sought after speaker internationally. In 2008, he was inducted into the prestigious National Fitness Hall of Fame. In 2012 he was also inducted into the Personal Trainers Hall of Fame. He was appointed to serve on the prestigious, Global Advisory Board, of The International Sports Hall of Fame as well as being appointed to the Advisory Board for the American Board of Anti-Aging Health Practitioners.

Dr. Ogawa is also a professor at Kumamoto Gakuen University and an emeritus professor of Kyushu University and Yamaguchi University. His research interest is on age-friendly communities either in urban or rural areas in Japan. He also develops and proposes age-friendly strategies to government and businesses.

Professor Kapiolani Community College, Dr. Hayashida is also the director and the founder of the KCC Kapuna Education Center, Hawaii’s only gerontology center at the community college level. Since 1979, he has created over 35 new long-term care programs all aimed at finding cost effective methods of delivering care services.

Professor, University Indonesia, Dr. Tri Budi W. Rahardjo is a Professor in Gerontology at Universitas Indonesia, Indonesia. Since March 2010 she has been the Director of the Centre for Ageing Studies, Universitas Indonesia (CAS UI). Her other research commitments include an Honorary Visiting Research Fellowship, Oxford Institute of Population Ageing, University of Oxford 2011-2014, and Consultant for Ageing Programmes to the Indonesian Government and private sector since 2011.
Oyunkhand Ragchaa, Mongolia
Director of Gerontology Center, Dr. Ragchaa Oyunkhand is the General Director of National Gerontology Center which carries out investigation on the determinants of health and ageing of Mongolians, preventing, diagnosing, and treating the diseases, providing by evidence-based medical service, and as well as forming a client adoring system, and sustaining the team development. She previously served as the Director of Gerontology Center and as the secretary of Professional Committee on Sanatorium and Rehabilitation under the Ministry of Health.

Professor, University of Auckland, Dr. Park Hong, Jae is a program leader of bachelor of Human Services in the School of Counseling at the University of Auckland. His research and outreach interests are in the areas of gerontological concerns, migrants’ issues and professional ethics in social and human services.

Dr. Donghee Han is Director of Research Institute of Science for the Better Living of the Elderly (RISBLE) in Busan, Korea and Secretary General Research Center for Anti-aging Technology Development. She oversees the delivery of a variety of programs to empower older adults and strengthen family. She has won Korean government awards for RISBLE programs, including prizes for “Information and Culture in Cyber spaces for Older Persons”. She is the founder of the Korean Information Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse (KINPEA). She is General Executive Director Korean Gerontology Society.

Executive Officer of Age Concern North Shore Inc., Janferie is a recognised leader in Health Promotion and Community Development for older people in New Zealand and is a past Chairperson of the Health Promotion Forum of NZ; Auckland University of Technology Health Advisory Committee; Healthy Cities North Shore; Beneficiaries Advocacy & Information Services and a Board member of NZ Association of Gerontology.

Dr Thang Leng Leng is socio-cultural anthropologist with research focus on aging, gender, intergenerational relations and programs. Her field of interest is in Asia, especially Japan and Singapore. She is interested in the larger question of ikigai (Japanese term, defined as purpose of life) among older people, and believes that the concept of active aging is important in enabling one to live a life with a sense of purpose and satisfaction.

He is also a clinical professor at the School of Medicine, Tokyo Medical & Dental University. Initially, Dr. Wada served as the Chairman of Elderly Protective Services Agency, Matsudo Municipal Government, Chiba, Japan.

Professor Kyushu University, Dr. Adachi Kioshi is a professor of sociology at the Graduate School of Human-Environment Studies, Kyushu University. He has also served as a visiting scholar at Johns Hopkins University, Graduate School of Social Policy, Baltimore, USA and as a visiting professor at Boston College, Graduate School of Social Welfare, Boston, USA.

Secretary General, International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse, Susan Somer is a lawyer and a practitioner in the area of elder abuse and has a wide interest in training ranging from health issues, psychological abuse, and financial abuse to sexual abuse. She also has experience in multi-sector training and education.

Chris Conybeare, USA
Professor, University of Hawaii West Oahu, Chris Conybeare is a human rights lawyer, media specialist, and documentary filmmaker. He has spent much of the past 34 years documenting Hawaii history utilizing the remembrances and stories of the elderly. He has created more than 20 hours of broadcast television programming, and more than 1,000 hours of video interviews with men and women who contributed to the creation of modern Hawaii. Chris Conybeare has been a member of ACAP since 2007. He has participated with other ACAP members in presentations at meetings in Australia, China, Indonesia, Japan, and Malaysia.
Eef Hogervorst, United Kingdom
Professor, Loughborough University, Eef Hogervorst completed her Ph.D. at the University of Maastricht on the modeling of age-related cognitive decline. She subsequently worked at the Universities of Oxford (1998-2005), Arkansas Medical Sciences USA and Cambridge as a neuropsychologist and epidemiologist to investigate risk factors for Alzheimer’s disease and age-related cognitive decline.

Dr. Byung Pal Yu is a renowned professor in the area of medicine. He has previously served as professor in the Woman’s College of Pennsylvania, the Medical College of Pennsylvania, University of Texas Health Science Center among other institutions. He has led the American Aging Association as the President and chaired Biological Sciences, Gerontological Society of America.

Dr. Choi Rak Won is the President of Korea Institute of Functional Medicine and currently Bidding Committee for the 2013 WFNS. He is also the President-elect of Korean Neurosurgical Society President of Korea Integrative Medicine Society. He is a visiting professor, East-West Cancer Center, College of Oriental Medicine, Daejeon University. He previously served as a member of the Consultative Committee for Environmental Preservation for Sungbuk-gu of Seoul Metropolitan City.

Professor, Kosin University, Dr. Kwang wook Koh is a Professor at Kosin University, College of Medicine, and Department of Preventive Medicine. He is also the Vice-dean of Graduate School of Public Health/Vice-chairman of academic council of Korean Healthy Cities Partnership, Active Living Facilitator, Manager and Provider of Human Kinetics. Dr. Donald Ingram is a professor in the Department/Laboratory of Nutritional Neuroscience and Aging: Comparative Metabolic and Behavioral Core Dr. Ingram’s research has focused on nutritional and pharmacological interventions designed to slow the rate of aging and thus reduce the risk of age-related disease and functional decline. The major area of investigation involves in vivo rodent models and in vitro cellular models to identify protective mechanisms invoked by calorie restriction.

Dr. Ruttan is the founding Editor-in-Chief of Biogerontology, a peer reviewed international journal on the biology of ageing, published by Springer.
